I live in Oxnard, California, just up the coast from Los Angeles. My wife, Cherry, and I have lived here since 1967 when I came here to work at what is now the Naval Air Warfare Center at Point Mugu, CA. I retired at the end of October, 1999, after over 32 years there. I worked for the Radar Reflectivity Laboratory which measures the radar signature of targets. I was fortunate enough to receive the Department of the Navy Meritorious Civilian Service Award. I have a degree in Physics from the University of Alabama ('65).  Roll Tide!

I was born in Miami, Florida, in 1943, and grew up in Birmingham, AL, where my mother moved after my father, William Theron Sisson, died when his plane went down in WWII in 1944. He flew PBY-5 Catalina flying boats on anti-submarine patrol in the Caribbean. My mother later married my step-father, Julian Yates. They are now both deceased. I contracted polio in 1954 at age 10 and have used a wheelchair ever since.

I am a member of the American Scientific Affiliation, an organization of Christians in the sciences. I write poetry and song lyrics and I love music! I was a cofounder and moderator of the late lamented Christian Writer's Workshop and am a member of the board of the Ventura County Chapter of the American Christian Writers.. I also love to watch Australian Rules Football - it's a wild game!

My wife, Cherry, was a pre-school teacher and is now studying for her Master's in Special Education. We've been married for 40 years. We are members of Grace Reformed Church in Somis, CA. Drop in some Sunday morning... you'll be most welcome! My daughter, Mary, is married and lives in Ohio with her husband, Steve, and our first two grandchildren, Jeffrey Bryan and Liberty Jean. My son, Robert, lives in Simi Valley, is married to Cindy, and is a VOIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) Engineer for United OnLine. They are the proud parents of Joshua Theron Yates, born December 29, 2004.

My wife and I used to host Japanese exchange students as part of the Cultural Homestay International program. They come for a month and live as part of the family, learning how Americans live while being taught English in classes during the day. Here is a picture of my wife, Cherry, me, and Kayo Senda of Osaka. She was one of our more recent students and a real delight. Miyuki, one of our students, is now married to a man from Oxnard, so we see her often!
