Here's the latest update!

April 6, 2007

Hello, dear friends of Heartfelt Music! Even though the Heartfelt Music program is no longer on KPFK, John and Deanne having been "liberated" on July 5, 2003 after 32 glorious years of exciting, edgy, eclectic music, there are many of you who still write us and contact this website, hoping to find something new. There's always something going on in our lives and we'll pass along a few things here...

Deanne's musical, "Hands!" The Musical (she is the book and lyrics writer, music by David Wheatley, composer/pianist/organist extraordinaire) goes up May 11th and 12th at Pasadena First Church of the Nazarene and if you'd like to hear one of our songs, go to: http://www.myspace.com/handsthemusical. Needless to say, all of you and everyone you've ever met are invited and we'd be thrilled to see you.

Our grandson, Michael, and his wife, Alexandra, are momentarily expecting our second great-grandchild, Miss Catherine Sophia Davis. We have seen her in 4-D ultrasound and she's gorgeous. Of course, we've noticed that all the children in this family are gorgeous. William, great-grandchild #1, the two-year old, is extremely bright, very cute, and an expert on heavy equipment/rolling stock.

Patti (our alternate and your favorite fill-in host) and Dave's son, David, is out of the Army after six glorious years and two tours in Iraq. He's working on a new career and is living in Germany. Their oldest daughter, Nicole, is in her second year at Maranatha High School and brothers Blake and Luke are doing splendidly at Pasadena Christian School.

Our son, John, married a fabulous young woman this past August, Michon, a former Miss Montana, who is not only beautiful, but the sweetest, dearest addition to our family we could ever have asked for. We all love her and are so glad she is part of our lives. John's and now Michon's children, Ashley, Chad, Amber and Emily live in the beach area and are growing sweeter by the week. How blessed we are with family! Our youngest daughter, Crissy, and her husband, Chris, are now living in Josephine, Texas. They're happy there and we're happy they're happy but we sure do miss having them close by. They are on the foster child track, taking classes and preparing to welcome some little person who needs a respite from their life into their home.

John and Deanne are now into their fourth year with The Jabez Group at Pasadena First Church of the Nazarene, the young single adults (20's-30's) and if you fall in that age group and are looking for a safe place to meet other young singles and grow in grace and faith, we'd love to meet you. Pasadena First Church is at 3700 E. Sierra Madre Blvd., Pasadena 91107 (so you can Google it) and we meet Sundays at 9:30 a.m. in Room 302.

John continues in his consulting business and is busier than ever with new projects appearing on a constant basis and we are both healthy and happy. We miss Heartfelt Music, and talk frequently about how wonderful our listeners were and how we loved bringing you new music. Nothing is so permanent as change, however, and the changes in our lives and.....in yours, too.....are exciting and fulfilling.

We are always happy to hear from any of you....we hold you always in our hearts.

J & D

"Hands!" A high-energy, humorous look at what familiar Bible friends have done with their hands. With contemporary, upbeat music and an uplifting and redemptive message showing today's audience what they could be doing with their hands to make the world a better place, "Hands!" The Musical guarantees a great evening of delightful entertainment for all ages.

We see Eve pluck that forbidden fruit and release sin into the world. We're with Noah as he picks up his hammer, calls the creatures and builds that ark. Ruth and Naomi explore what happens when you "Just Pray." David gives Goliath a terminal headache with a slingshot and a handful of stones. Matthew, the tax collector, leaves the IRS behind, becomes a disciple and one of Jesus' biographers. Judas, the betrayer, shows us a new side when he sings that he'd "Like Another Yesterday." Finally, we meet a young med student at a crossroads experience where she realizes she must change her heart before she can use her hands in God's service.

Our hands are God's tools today, too, and there is so much we can do with them to further God's kingdom And you! What are YOU doing with your hands!

Tickets: A mere $10.00 for adults, $5.00 for kids 12 and under, and students with I.D.

Less than the movies and far more fun!

AND, if you really really love it, donations will be cheerfully and gratefully accepted.

May 4, 2005

In case you hadn't noticed, Heartfelt Music is no longer on KPFK. On July 5th, 2003, 32 years of great music ended. Howard and Roz Larman and Folkscene are now gracing the airwaves at 8 a.m. on Saturday mornings. It was fun while it lasted and we enjoyed every minute!

John & Deanne Davis, former hosts of Heartfelt Music, are now well into their second year of leading The Jabez Group of young, single adults (20's & 30's) each Sunday morning at 9:30 a.m. in Room 302 at First Church of the Nazarene, 3700 E. Sierra Madre Blvd., Pasadena 91107 - (commonly referred to as PazNaz). If you're single and in that age group and would like to meet some other delightful Christian young people, come on up and meet us. We have something new and exciting to pass along every week and lots of class participation discussion groups; plus service projects. We also host a bible study at our home on Tuesday nights and are currently working our way through Dr. Robert Clinton's The Making of a Leader. This is a delightful group of people who love to go out to dine, out to movies, to plays, theme parks and just about anything that is a fun activity. We're always ready to welcome new people.

John is busier than ever working with his engineering consulting business. Deanne has written the book and lyrics for a musical, Hands, which will, hopefully, be produced within this year. Their first great-grandson, William Gregory Kemp Davis appeared on the planet on September 6th, 2004 and this is one great-looking baby.

Daughter Patti and son-in-law, Dave's, oldest daughter, Nicole, who has participated on Heartfelt Music many times with her Mom, and sung on the Davis Family Christmas radio programs, will be starting high school in the Fall! Time flies, especially when you're having a wonderful life.

We are always happy to hear from any of our dear listeners and, of course, are available to pray for anyone who has a concern. We miss being radio stars whenever we hear any exceptionally good music and wish we could pass it along to all of you. We wait on the Lord to see what He would have us do in this area. We are open and ready to resume our radio career, should God make it happen.

God's blessings on you all and if you're looking for a nifty Easter program, try Easter at PazNaz! A wonderful Sunrise service at 6:30 a.m. and then two presentations of One Had To Rise, a powerful musical presentation and a message by Pastor Scott Priest. There's also a continental breakfast available from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. (donations accepted). If you come, look us up.

Heartfelt Music lives on forever in all the wonderful music and the great people who listened for so many years!

September 7, 2004

We just had our first great-grandchild and as of September 1st, we have two thirteen-year olds in the family again! Those cute little girls who used to sing Christmas Carols on the Davis Family Christmas show are now taller than Deanne is and gaining steadily on John!

We're still busy with our Sunday School class of 20s-30s Young Adults (The Jabez Group) at Pasadena First Church of the Nazarene and if you find yourself in that age group, unmarried, and looking for some neat young people to hang around with, give us a visit!

This time of year we're reminded daily of Guy Clark's song, "Homegrown Tomatoes" on a daily basis as we're eating them almost fast enough to keep up with them. Guy was right...there's nothin' like true love and Homegrown Tomatoes!

Much love to you all,

John & Deanne Davis

If you are single and in this age group, and would like to know what Christians believe or grow in your faith, join us on Sunday mornings. We are currently studying Rick Warren's The Purpose-Driven Life. Find out the answers to such questions as "What are we here for?" Merry Christmas to all!
The annual Christmas program at First Church of the Nazarene in Pasadena, which we would have talked about on KPFK, is coming up at the end of this week! Those of you who enjoy those events must be sure to see this... "One Bethlehem Night" is a charming musical showing us what really happened at that Inn on the first Christmas night, when Jesus Christ was born. There will be angels, shepherds, village women doing laundry on rocks (that's where Deanne will be) and some great music. It's Friday, December 19th at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, December 20th at 4:00 p.m., and Sunday, December 21st at 6:00 p.m. Each performance will be followed by a dessert reception. It's all free and we'd love to see you. First Church of the Nazarene is at 3700 E. Sierra Madre Blvd., Pasadena. Call (626) 351-9631 for information/directions.

Dear Friends of Heartfelt Music,

Well, it's been a month now since our radio career suddenly ended and we have been astonished, amazed and tremendously gratified by the number of e-mails, cards and letters we have received from you. Never have we read so many wonderful things and have frequently wondered if that is really us you're talking about!

We enjoyed our time on Kauai and were so delighted to be in the presence of so much of God's best work. If you've not been there, you're missing out. One of the things that was interesting was the vast quantity of chickens wandering everywhere we went...gorgeous roosters and rather ordinary hens. Waimea Canyon was fantastic... the Grand Canyon of Hawaii... and we had a wonderful vacation.

We are still persona non grata at KPFK... actually, they've probably forgotten we ever existed. We miss you guys, we miss playing the music, we miss the fun we had talking to each other while you listened in. We're filling the time with other things and just trying to do our best to please God and be good to each other. You dear friends... do the same.

Much love, J & D

Jul 5, 2003

Dear Friends of Heartfelt Music,

Today, July 5th was our last show on KPFK. We have loved every minute of the time that KPFK allowed us to have and have met so many really fabulous people along the way....all of you!! We suggest that you go to KPFK.org. Then, under "Station News" you'll see "click here for an announcement from the Program Director" and read what immediately fills your screen. This will explain it all...what the station is doing and planning and their current philosophy as far as programming, and, more specifically, Heartfelt Music, is concerned.

KPFK has been a great place for us these 32 years, never censoring what we said or the music that we played. In fact, we sort of felt that they really didn't know we were doing! We were a nifty little Saturday secret. It's been a fantastic run and we wouldn't have missed a minute or one of you.

Keep us in your prayers, be patient with us, we will answer all of you but as we had over a hundred e-mails when we got home today, obviously it will take a little time. We will start writing you all when we return from Hawaii on July 17th. Meanwhile, we are trusting God to bring something exciting and new into our lives. He only closes one door to open a new one. We trust Him with our lives, our family, our friends...that's all of you....and can't wait to see what happens next! It's A Beautiful Life!!

Much love, J & D
July 4, 2003

Dear Family & Friends,

We have just been informed by KPFK management that Heartfelt Music has been canceled.

This Saturday, July 5th, will be our last broadcast.

The reason given us (but I'm not sure it's the real reason) was the desire for more public affairs programming and ethnic diversity around the station (I think they mean that we are too white, and middle class).

I have been doing the show on KPFK for 32 years. KPFK has been good to me, has let me do the program the way I felt best and never told me what I could or could not play. It has been a lot of fun, and I know that God has even greater things in store for us.

We love our music and our audience!!!
