Jon Wilcox, a Santa Barbara, California, native, first gained national recognition in folk music circles in the 1970s, touring widely and recording traditional-flavored singer-songwriter albums for the Folk Legacy and Sierra.Briar labels. A highly-regarded veteran of the folk and "almost bluegrass" scene, he has founded-and recorded several CDs with-two remarkable bands, Marley's Ghost (1986- ) and the Rincon Ramblers (1994- ), both of which he still performs with regularly, both known for rich vocal harmonies, infectious rhythms, and a wide variety of musical styles.

His more recent solo work reflects these same diverse influences, blending Ralph Stanley and Smokey Robinson with RL Stevenson, Leonard Cohen, and Joseph Campbell. Accompanying himself inimitably on the guitar, mandolin, and Irish bouzouki, he sings both his clever and compelling originals and his reverent renderings of traditional Scottish and Irish fare, Appalachian gospel, and the occasional Dylan, Van Morrison, or Merle Haggard song in a seasoned tenor with a rough-edged delicacy, a restrained abandon. His first solo CD, Still Life, featuring Sally Van Meter, Nina Gerber, Tom Rozum, and Michael Shrieve, among others, was released by Sage Arts in 2000.

"Jon Wilcox is a rare song stylist whose tastes are eclectic, sometimes eccentric, but always combine an avid interest in our musical heritage with a contemporary perspective." - Roz and Howard Larman, Folk Scene.
